Brian Burley was so excited when he'd saved enough of his paper route money to buy his cousin Paul's red Norma electric guitar. His first couple songs were CCR gems, Down on the Corner and Bad Moon Risin'. The Burley Brothers were always swappin' tunes from Burl Ives and Dylan to Shawn Phillips and the Grateful Dead. Brian wishes he still had some of that great vinyl his brother Chris ripped off.
Over the years Brian's picked mandolin through Ireland, sung around many a campfire, hacked out bluegrass and folk with The Cheshire Cats and The Groundhawgs, and sung praises with Common Ground. He currently covers rhythm guitar and lead vocals for Out of the Blue, offering a tasty blend of classic rock, blues, folk, reggae, and rockabilly.
Playing in Big Blue House with talented artists, Harvey and Bob, offers great opportunity for creating, sharing and recording original and classic folk, rock, blues, and jazz, and who knows what.
Harvey Possemato studied jazz guitar with Gene Bertoncini through the Eastman School of Music and Sal Salvador at the University of Bridgeport. He also holds a Master's degree in Music Theory and Composition from the State University of New York at Fredonia. Harvey has taught instrumental music at Gananda Central School for the 26 years and was lead guitarist for the East Rochester All Star band from 1999 through 2009 .
Harvey is presently lead guitarist for Big Blue House and the Alysia Groth Band, performs with fellow jazz guitarist Vinnie Ruggiero and also plays regularly with the Eastman Continuing Ed. Music Educator's Jazz Ensemble. He has also performed with Mind The Gap, Half Ton Horns. Four On The Floor, the Alfred Tech Alumni Jazz Ensemble and as percussionist for the the Penfield Symphony Orchestra, Hornell Symphony Orchestra and Catskill Symphony Orchestra (Oneonta, NY).
He is the leader of the Harvey Band that has released four CDs of original music spanning both electric and acoustic styles- “One Way Ticket” 2009, “Tracks” 2006, “Green Flats Road” 2002 (See review in 20th Century
Guitar Magazine, 2002), “Crossfire” 1994 (See review in Vintage Guitar Magazine, January 1995). For more info and music go to www.harveyband.com.
If Big Blue House's sound occasionally turns jazzy, it's just bassist Bob DeRosa being himself. Our newest member, Bob is primarily a jazz player and a co-owner of Tritone Jazz Fantasy Camps (www.tritonejazz.com), week-long summer jazz camps for adult amateur players and singers. He is a regular member of the Four on the Floor Jazz Quartet, Ann Mitchell Jazz, and the Jack Allen Big Band. He is also frequently called upon for jazz duo work with local pianists and guitarists. As a kid, Bob played clarinet and guitar, never picking up a bass until he was 42 years old. Now we can't get him to put it down.
Big Blue House is a raucous trio of seasoned musicians with experience in a variety of genres, which now merge styles and voices into a unique gumbo of folk, rock, blues, jazz and reggae. We offer a blend of voices, acoustic rhythm and lead guitar, stand-up bass, and occasional mandolin, banjo and resonator guitar. We often add percussion and a random horn to fill up the house. Our songs run a broad scope of time and genres but keep a consistency of musicality, lyricism, imagery and tastefulness. We look forward to adding some flavor and energy to your next event!
